Juniors (14-18) and Seniors (14&Up) At this level, competitions usually consist of 4 required figures and free routines. The free routines allow variance in timing, lifts, throws and much more creativity in choreography. At some of the senior level meets, technical elements replace figure competition and technical routines are also included in addition to free routines. Advanced swimmers participate at state, regional, zone and national levels. The amount of travel depends on qualification requirements. The Junior and Senior tracks are very competitive and for the serious and committed athlete may lead to selection to the U.S. national teams. Swimmers in their junior year of high school should look into collegiate synchro programs.
